LORD HARDTHRASHER IS AT HOME

Welcome to his Lordships’ private rooms. Please wipe your shoes and sit on the less valuable of the furniture.

Welcome to the world of Lord Hardthrasher, where history comes with drama, strong opinions and a well-stocked drinks cabinet. Alongside my faithful manservant Jenkins and my long-suffering wife, Her Ladyship, I bring the past to life on YouTube - from the Battle of Britain and the Bomber War to the jungles of Burma, with occasional excursions beyond the Second World War. History should make you think, make you feel and occasionally make you reach for something stronger. Join me - there’s plenty more to come, and the lead on the East Wing roof won’t pay for itself.

Videos what I made

Cowardice & Courage

Just getting into a Bomber took guts. To do it twice required balls of steel. What happened when men wouldn't or couldn't continue to fly? We'll look at the dangers they faced, what the RAF and the USAAF did to tackle the problem and talk about the infamous "LMF" cases in the RAF

The Dambusters

To this day, the Dambusters Raids are some of the most contraversal and mythologised operations of the Second World War. Going completely against Bomber Command’s usual doctrine, in mid-1943, when the USAAF was still not flying to Germany, a handful of British and Commonwealth aircrew were trained, a specialist weapon developed and a mission carried out within just a mater of weeks. We’ll look at WW2’s most celebrated, but perhaps most misunderstood missions.

The Forgotten War

The war in the Far East was late, brutal and mostly forgotten in the UK. Yet more than 1,000,000 Indian troops, 100,000 British and 30,000 Americans, not to mention several Chinese divisions fought for the flag of the Raj, against a Japanese incursion more violent and terrifying than any battle in the Pacific. Why and how this fight started, what impact it had on WW2, and how the British and their allies won a remarkable victory, thousands of miles from home, is one of the most exciting of world war two.
